Located in the heart of Theresienstein, the Hof Zoological Garden offers a wonderful place to spend a few exciting and educational hours. Delightfully cool in the summer and beautifully snow-covered in the winter, the zoo is a welcome destination for a day trip in every season. Many of our enclosures are walk-through, allowing visitors to observe and photograph the animals without the obstruction of bars. The zoo is operated by a nonprofit organization, so donations to support the zoo’s upkeep are always welcome.

Research Projects
Research is an important part of modern zoos. Through careful observation of our animals and collaboration with scientific institutions, we gain valuable insights into their behavior, lifestyle, and needs. This knowledge enables us to continually improve our animal care, promote the well-being of our animals, and make an important contribution to the conservation of endangered species.

Reindeer live in cold, quiet landscapes where the short summers have historically posed few threats. However, due to rising temperatures and longer summers, mosquitoes are becoming increasingly widespread. These insects transmit diseases and weaken the reindeer. Scientists are studying the effects and developing protective measures for the animals. The Hof Zoo supports them by catching mosquitoes in the reindeer enclosure and providing them to the scientists.

The Zoo Association
The Hof Zoological Garden is operated by the Zoological Society of Upper Franconia 1907 e.V.
As a member of our association, you’ll gain exciting insights into the zoo’s future, receive interesting background information, and make a valuable contribution to the preservation of our facility. At the annual general meeting, we’ll update you on current developments and upcoming projects. As an association member, you’ll also enjoy discounted admission. Above all, however, your membership supports the zoo and helps ensure the care of our animals as well as the preservation and further development of our facilities.
